Existential Landscape Paintings Selected Works 2006–2026

The following selection of paintings showcases what Pisani calls Existential Landscapes. Each one captures the full friction and enchantment of his journey into pigment and presence. They are not a record of what a place looked like, but a compressed artifact of an entire experience, from initial anticipation to lingering memory.

Surfaces are built in layers: glazes over heavy impasto, drips guided, redirected, and sometimes painted into illusion. Marks are etched into the surface using sfregamento, scraping, sanding, and reapplying pigment to reveal or bury what lies beneath. Pencil, oil pastel, and other media enter when the work demands it. The wounds and tension in the paint are literal: dates, counts, and marks carved or pressed into the canvas itself, some deliberately obscured by the layers that came after. What is buried is as much the subject as what remains visible. Poetic titles offer hints or clues without fixing meaning.
